Netting whopper of a grouper

TELUK INTAN: Their dragnet felt extremely heavy but the three fishermen from Hutan Melintang did not think a live 183kg grouper fish was their big catch.

Fisherman Tan Eng Thiam, 45, said the incident happened about 11am yesterday when they were fishing in the Straits of Malacca coast near Sembilan island.

Tan said the machine lifting the dragnet to the fishermen’s boat experienced technical difficulties due to the heavy catch.

He said it was common for the machine to experience difficulties when the drag net got stuck on logs at the bottom of the sea.

“However we were stunned to find what we thought were logs was actually a giant grouper fish that was still alive,” said Tan.
The 2.1-metre-long fish was brought back to the beach near Hutan Melintang. They first sold the fish to a middle-man who later sold it to a restaurant operator for RM5,500.

Before yesterday’s big catch, the heaviest grouper fish caught weighed 163kg.

Top Cop denies having RM27 million

KUALA LUMPUR: Federal Commercial Crime Investigation Department director Comm Datuk Ramli Yusoff admitted yesterday that he was the “RM27mil cop” being investigated by the Anti-Corruption Agency, but denied that he had amassed such wealth.

“I do not have RM27mil as alleged by several newspapers. My legal source of income – buying and selling properties including shares – is more than the assets that I have declared under oath. This is certified by an accountant,” he said, adding that he was investigated after a report was lodged against him with the ACA.

Comm Ramli said he had nothing to hide and was willing to work with the ACA and answer any question anytime.

He said that as far as he knew, the ACA had cleared him of any wrongdoing as of Sept 2006, arguing that he would not have been promoted to the rank of commissioner otherwise.

Comm Ramli said he only knew that he was under investigation by the ACA when the Pangkat Gagah Pasukan Polis (police gallantry award) that he was due to receive, was withheld earlier this year.

Speaking at a packed press conference, which was attended by about 30 of this officers, at his office in Bukit Perdana, he said the land he owned in Sabah was government land that he had applied for, adding that the then Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Bakri Omar had given his written consent.

“My friend, a former army general and I bought the 800acre (323.3ha) plot and we made a partial payment of about RM200,000, which is 50% of the total value.

“Anyway the land is not ours yet as we have yet to get the grant.''

Comm Ramli said the past three months had been “like living in hell.”

He said he was also sad that certain newspapers had not checked or clarified with him prior to publishing the news.

“I am a normal human being with feelings and I have my family to protect too,” he said.

“You all (media) also should know what you have done to me,” he said, looking at reporters.

Comm Ramli also questioned the ACA's probe into his assets, saying Section 32(1)(b) of the ACA Act stated that all information surrounding investigations was confidential.

“Several newspapers reports quoted ACA sources,” he said, adding that someone had leaked information to the press.

Comm Ramli, who retires in March, denied speculation that he would be resigning.

He said he had refrained from going to the press earlier as he wanted the ACA to carry out its investigations against him.

“I have to be fair to them but unfortunately they are not being fair to me,” he said, adding that he would go on his umrah on Saturday “barring any obstacles”.

Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail said the ACA's probe had been completed, adding that he was satisfied with the investigations.

“They (ACA officers) are very good and do their work well. It is completed and it was referred directly to me,” he said.

On action to be taken, he said: “We have to discuss it. Even yesterday we had some discussions on this issue.”

Singaporeans blur on sex

MANY Singaporeans have been seeking help from doctors on how to have sexual intercourse, Sin Chew Daily reported yesterday.

Singapore Thomson Medical Centre (TMC) founder Dr Cheng Wei Chen said the hospital received several people every month, mostly university graduates, seeking their guidance on how to “do it”.

Its urology senior consultant Dr Lin Fa Cai said he once treated a woman who was married for 10 years and supposedly had sex more than 1,000 times, but was still a virgin.

Dr Lin said the husband, who had a doctorate degree, and his wife, who complained of being unable to conceive, sought help at the hospital.

“The couple told me they had sex about three times a week but when I examined the wife, her hymen was still intact.

“He had a doctorate degree but zero knowledge on sex,” he said.

Another doctor, who declined to be named, said a couple in their 30s sought help from Mount Elizabeth Hospital and Medical Centre for failing to conceive after seven years of marriage.

He said he found no problem with the couple but later discovered that the husband withdrew just before ejaculating.

Sex tutorial with Dr Love

A NEWLY-MARRIED couple had sexual intercourse in front of a Singapore sex expert known as Dr Love after complaining to him that they could not experience sexual pleasure, reported China Press.

The daily said the couple, in their 30s, had called on Dr Love to tell him that they had tried various sex positions but still could not achieve any satisfaction.

He told the daily that the woman also complained that she suffered from stiff back whenever she had sex with her husband.

Dr Love then showed them pictures of various sexual intercourse techniques and explained to the couple, who paid S$700 (RM1,600) in consultation fee, how to tackle their problem.

“It was then that the woman suggested to me that she have sex with her husband in front of me.

“They undressed and had sex on my sofa. They wanted me to correct their mistakes on the spot,” the daily quoted Dr Love as saying.

However, the daily reported that the couple still could not understand the various techniques taught after spending 45 minutes with Dr Love.

Dr Love said an average of 14 couples would have sex in front of him in a year to show him their problems.

He said there was nothing to feel embarrassed about sex as the couples were just hoping to seek sexual pleasure.

Erra to Wed Engku Emran on Thursday

PETALING JAYA: Singer Erra Fazira and SuriaFM chief operating officer Engku Emran Engku Zainal Abidin will wed on Thursday.

When contacted, Engku Emran said the akad nikah (solemnisation of marriage ceremony) preparations were going well.

“There is still a little bit of time to finalise things. It’s been really hectic,” he told The Star.

“Though the preparations are quite elaborate, we want to keep it a close-knit affair with family members and close friends. I'm too busy to even feel nervous. Maybe, I will be, on the day itself,” he said.

Wedding invitations were sent out yesterday.

Midway through the conversation, Erra interjected and said she hoped the marriage would last, this time.

The singer/actress who had asked for a copy of the Quran from the groom said the gift would signify blessings from God and would be a sweet symbolic gesture.

Erra, who has just finished shooting a Hollywood movie, Hidden in July, said that there had only been a month to prepare everything.

“It’s all a big rush but it’s going to be great.”

Malaysian Sues: Refuses Iraq Duty

LOS ANGELES: A Malaysian-born US Army soldier has launched a legal bid to prevent being sent to Iraq, claiming deployment to the war zone would conflict with his religious beliefs, lawyers said on Friday.

Calvin Lee Chee Keong, a 26-year-old Malaysian who has permanent residency in the United States, said in a lawsuit filed here that he had been duped into joining the military by recruiters in 2004.

Lee, a Buddhist, said he had been told he would never have to leave the United States during his three years' military service or go to war, lawyers for the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) said.

However, he sought conscientious objector status after discovering that his service was being extended and his unit was being deployed to Iraq, the ACLU said in a statement.

“Every action of killing is so evil and wrong, I don’t want to do any evil things and see any suffering happening right in front of my eyes,” Lee said in the statement.

The Department of the Army rejected his conscientious objector application without explanation despite recommendations for his release by army officers, a chaplain and a mental health specialist, the ACLU said.

“Based on the record, the army has no basis in fact and no good reason to refuse Calvin’s application,” said Deborah Karpatkin, Lee’s attorney.

“As Calvin wrote in his CO application, he learned in the army that America is about seeking religious freedom.”

A spokesman for the army declined to comment.

Lee, who is currently assigned to the 58th Combat Engineer Company based at Fort Irwin, California, joined the army in 2004 after a recruiter approached him at a job fair in San Francisco, the ACLU said. Despite his uneasiness, Lee continued to work, turning down promotions in rank and salary as he felt his faith required, the ACLU said.

By November, Lee applied to a Malaysian temple to live as a monk after the end of his army service, which was originally scheduled for September, the ACLU said. But in December, the army informed Lee that his term of service was being extended and his unit would be deployed to Iraq.

Cops may now learn how Osama sneaked into plane in Malaysia

SEPANG: Finally, answers will be forthcoming on how a Palestinian breached security at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
Malaysian authorities had been lamenting that they had no access to stowaway, Osama R.M. Shublaq, and did not have a clue on how he had boarded a Singapore Airlines flight at KLIA.

They were contemplating making a request to Singapore to question the 27-year-old Palestinian who was being held in the republic.

Their concerns were put to rest yesterday when Osama was deported to Malaysia after the Singapore Subordinate Courts acquitted him of entering the republic illegally.

He was put on a Singapore Airlines flight which landed at KLIA at 5.55pm and was immediately taken into custody by Immigration Department officials.
Osama was later handed over to Sepang police and questioned for over an hour by the Selangor CID chief SAC II Mazlan Mansor, who is heading investigations.

Mazlan said this was a matter of national security and declined to comment further.

It is, however, learnt that Osama had maintained that he had entered Malaysia legally although Immigration Department records showed no evidence of him entering the country.

Checks are now being conducted to verify his claim.

Osama was then sent to the KLIA police lock-up and is expected to be produced at the Sepang magistrate’s court today where police will apply for a remand order.

He is being investigated for trespassing on a protected area, a charge under Section 7 of Protected Areas and Protected Places Act 1959 which carries a two-year jail sentence with fine upon conviction.

Authorities here were concerned because after five days of intense investigations, they were clueless as to how Osama had breached security at KLIA.

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Chan Kong Choy had said that they did not know how the Palestinian made it to the KLIA tarmac unnoticed.

Osama had not appeared on any closed-circuit television camera nor were there any intrusions along the perimeter fencing.

On claims that this incident was a major security breach, Chan said that the International Civil Aviation Organisation had conducted a security audit late last year and the airport was found to be in full compliance with requirements.

The incident, however, left KLIA officials red-faced as it happened at a time when airports around the world were tightening security procedures.

Osama was discovered when he fell 2.4 metres from the nose wheel well of the Boeing 777-200 when the plane landed at the Changi International Airport in Singapore on Oct 12.

Flight staff were amazed that the man survived the journey as he could have been crushed by the retracting nose wheel, lack of oxygen at high altitude or the cold.

Sam the seagull stealing Doritos

A seagull in Scotland has developed the habit of stealing crisps from a neighbourhood shop.

The seagull waits until the shopkeeper isn't looking, and then walks into the store and grabs a snack-size bag of cheese Doritos.

Once outside, the bag gets ripped open and shared by other birds.

The seagull's shoplifting started early this month when he first swooped into the store in Aberdeen , Scotland , and helped himself to a bag of crisps. Since then, he's become a regular. He always takes the same type of crisps .

Customers have begun paying for the seagull's stolen bags of chips because they think it's so funny .

Couple caught in intimate embrace caused accident pile-up

MUAR: A couple caught making out in their car tried to speed off but got caught in an accident, causing a five-car pile-up in Tanjung Agas here.

In the 8.45pm incident on Monday, police personnel in a passing patrol car spotted the couple locked in intimate embrace in a car at a hypermarket car park in Tanjung Agas.

As the patrol car neared them, the couple sped out of the car park for the Muar-Tanjung Agas road.

However, the couple’s car, a Proton Perdana, was involved in an accident with a passing car and this caused three other cars to crash not far from the Muar bridge near Tanjung Agas.

The couple, both in their 20s, were detained and the man was booked for reckless driving.

Muar traffic police officer Chief Insp Lim Aik Sin said the couple had been referred to the district religious department.

He said the man was a factory worker living in Malacca while the woman, a private college student in Kuala Lumpur, was from Kluang.

Teenager with a heart of gold robbed

DO unto others as you would have them do unto you.

This is the saying which an 18-year-old, who only wishes to be known as Tan, lives by.

Despite his busy schedule as an accountancy student in a college in Sunway, Tan, from Bangsar, still manages to spare two hours once a week to teach English and Maths for free to poor students at an outreach centre in Sri Sentosa, Jalan Klang Lama.

However, his good deeds went unrecognised as he was robbed by two men while he was about to teach a class last Tuesday.

The incident occurred when he was climbing a flight of stairs for an 8pm class where he tutors some 25 students.

Relating his ordeal, Tan said his path was blocked by a man in his 20s. He said the man had confronted him before calling an accomplice, who arrived armed with a cleaver.

“The duo made it clear that all they wanted was money. So I handed them my wallet containing RM310 and my cell phone.

“At the time, I wasn’t scared but I felt life was more precious than anything else,” he said, adding that the robbery took place 10m away from the door.

Despite being shook up over his close encounter, Tan chose to carry on teaching the class that night.

“I decided not to reveal what had happened as I did not want to scare my students. As it is, crimes are rampant in the area.

“I only hope the police will step up patrols for the safety of residents,” he said.

Tan, who hails from a well-to-do family, said tutoring was a way for him to contribute to society.

“Moreover, I am contemplating being a teacher, so this is good practice,” said Tan modestly.

He said the incident won’t deter him from tutoring.

“Nothing will stop me from helping these kids. I am even more determined to help them to excel academically,” said Tan.

A case of mistaken Penis

KEMAMAN: She felt a warm body next to her. Thinking it was her husband, she did what came naturally.

Not until her husband entered the room and asked her about a man he had seen walking out of the room did she realise that she had had sex with another man.

The housewife, 40, then lodged a report at the Cukai police station at 5.30pm alleging she had been raped.

Police later arrested the couple's friend, a 29-year-old labourer, who had been staying with them over the past two months.

The woman said she went to bed in their Chuping home about 5am on Friday after making preparations for Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations. Her husband had gone to work earlier.
About an hour later, she claimed, she felt a man next to her and she proceeded to make love to him. She claimed she did not see his face.

When her 34-year-old husband walked into the room a little later, she said she was surprised to see him in his work clothes.

The couple had allowed the suspect to stay with them because he was a colleague of the husband.

Police are investigating the case under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape. State deputy CID chief, Superintendent K. Manoharan said police were also looking into the claims made by the woman.

Kick Kenny Sia between his two large coconuts

An very entertaining game. Kenny if you're reading this, please don't get angry. It's just a harmless game.

'Phantom' stowaway at KLIA

KUALA LUMPUR: A Palestinian national who managed to sneak onboard a Singapore-bound Boeing 777-200 via the nose wheel last Thursday did not turn up on any closed-circuit television camera recordings.

And now red-faced officials are wondering how this serious security breach occurred under their noses with airports worldwide tightening security.

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Chan Kong Choy did not mince words when he said the security breach at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport should have not happened.

"I was angry and upset when I was briefed about the incident and I have told Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) to submit a full report and investigation on the incident," he said.

MAHB operations senior general manager Datuk Azmi Murad said surveillance tapes did not reveal the Palestinian anywhere in the airport.
The suspect, Osama R.M. Shublaq, 27, is said to have hidden in the nose wheel well on Flight SQ 119 from Kuala Lumpur late on Thursday night.

He was discovered after falling 2.4m from the nose wheel to the ground at the Changi International Airport in Singapore when it landed just after midnight.

According to Singapore media reports, the suspect was arrested by airport police and charged with entering the country without a valid pass or permit.

"We will co-operate with Singaporean authorities to ascertain how the stowaway managed to sneak aboard the flight," said Azmi.

MAHB senior general manager of security and AFRS services Datuk Kamaruddin Mohd Ismail said it was premature to comment on the issue as Singaporean police were questioning the suspect.

"We have begun our own investigations, but at this juncture, it would be unfair to say anything while the Singaporean police are still investigating the case," Kamaruddin said.

Meanwhile, checks with the Immigration Department revealed that there was no record of the stowaway entering or leaving the country.

"There are no records of the suspect at land, sea or air checkpoints that show he entered or exited the country," said the department's enforcement director Datuk Ishak Mohamed.

Veteran flight staff have expressed amazement that the man survived the journey as he could have been crushed by the retracting nose wheel.

The danger behind what the man is said to have done is underscored by previous cases of stowaways found dead on arrival elsewhere in the world.

They were either killed by the cold, the lack of oxygen at high altitude, or crushed by retracting landing gear.

The air in the wheel well is not pressurised or heated.

If convicted, the man could be jailed for up to six months, caned, or fined up to S$6,000 (RM14,000).

Mystery mansion

PENANG: A dilapidated mansion in Relau is sending chills down the spines of nearby residents who have heard rumours of “souls'' in the building.

Factory operator M. David Raj, 19, who has been hanging out at the Relau Villa mansion with his friends and cousins for the past five years, said he had on several occasions smelt “fish curry'' while they were there at about 7pm.

“My friend once uttered some vulgar words while we were coming down the steps in the mansion and he suddenly went tumbling down,'' said Raj, who had heard rumours about a woman committing suicide in the mansion's pool.

Another resident, who only wished to be known as Ah Beng, said a nun who used to live in the mansion grounds once told him that “something is always whispering'' to her.

“I never got to find out what it was about because she died about three years ago,'' said Ah Beng.

The mansion's condition adds to the eerie atmosphere. It is covered with creeper plants with tree branches making their way up the old stone walls.

The grounds of the single-storey mansion, which is believed to be more than 100 years old, are densely covered in lallang and bushes.

There is a pool right in the middle of the building. The roof of the building is missing.

On Wednesday, China Press reported that seven monks and 30 devotees had offered prayers at the mansion to fulfil a request by the nun. The daily reported that the nun had apparently seen many “souls'' at the mansion.

Relau Villa is among the many possessions belonging to Kapitan Cina of Perak Chung Keng Kwee.

Keng Kwee's great-grandson Owen Chung, 75, who is the trustee of the villa, said the claims by the nun, who he claimed was illegally occupying the land, were not true.

He said there were currently no plans to develop the plot of land.

Police release CCTV video footage in Nurin's case

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have several leads following the enhancement of the video recording of a man carrying a bag, believed to contain the naked body of Nurin Jazlin Jazimin, by the Federal Bureau of Investigations' forensics laboratory in Washington.

Federal CID Director Comm Datuk Christopher Wan Soo Kee, who made the recordings public yesterday, said: “The image of the man leaving the sports bag was captured at about 1pm on Sept 16.”

The two-minute footage, captured on a web-camera CCTV system, shows the man in a long-sleeved T-shirt parking his Modenas Kriss motorcycle in front of the Jalan PJS 1/48 Petaling Utama three-storey shoplot, removing his crash helmet and making a call on his handphone.

He is also seen walking towards the shop after the phone call, wearing his helmet and lifting the sports bag that was placed between the motorcycle seat and front basket.

The man then coolly carries the bag towards the building before returning to his motorcycle without the bag and speeding away from the scene.

The recording, however, fails to show a clear image of the man's face or the number plates on the motorcycle.

A second footage released yesterday showed a woman in a red blouse and blue jeans loitering in the area where the sports bag containing Nurin’s body was found.

The image shows a silver Perodua Kenari with three men arriving at the scene and two men alighting from the vehicle.

The men, one wearing a yellow shirt and the other a striped long-sleeved T-shirt, loiter around the five-foot way of the shoplot area and chat with each other for several minutes before entering the Kenari with the woman and driving off.

Comm Wan said the second image was recorded about an hour after the bagman on the motorcycle.

“We found that both footage have some connection with Nurin’s case.

“We have several leads following the enhancement of the recording by the FBI,” he said.

He said police contacted the Uptown taxi service company as the CCTV had also captured one of its taxis passing by while the bagman was talking on his handphone.

“However, the company owners could not identify who was driving the taxi at the time. So we hope the driver who drove past the area can come forward to help us.”

He also clarified that the photofit of a woman released on Oct 2 was based on the image of the woman in the red blouse captured in the second footage.

“The photofit of a man released on the same day was based on descriptions given by the public of a man who had gone to housing areas in Bangsar inquiring about a room to rent for himself and his daughter,” he said.

Those with information, can contact the police or send an SMS to the Rakan Cop hotline at 32728 or contact the investigation officer, Asst Supt Loh Pei Pei, at 019-357-7008.

Cultural Learnings of Hanoi For Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Malaysia by Kenny Sia

Here are few excerpts from Kenny Sia's blog, another funny and enjoyable entry from the funny man. Kenny Sia wrote:

On drinking coffee... Excerpts:

"This is ka fay sua da, otherwise known as Vietnamese iced coffee.

When I took a sip at this drink for the first time, my eyes widened, my arsehole tightened and I was bouncing off the walls. That was the strongest iced coffee I've had!

All they gave us was a glass of condensed milk with a weird contraption on top. All it contained was ground coffee and a dose of hot water. But what passed through the filter, dripping into the glass below was ounces of pure coffee heaven.

It's the Asian version of espresso, it's so rich with caffeine kick and it's cheap as hell.

Someone has gotta import this thing here.

We may have spent 4 days in Vietnam, but when we returned, the only Vietnamese word we could speak was ka fay sua da!"

On driving in Vietnam... Excerpts:

"Vietnamese people drive without a care in the world. Road rules are for decoration and zebra crossings are nothing but graffiti on the road. There are tens of other people fitting into the same lane as you. The unspoken rule is that you just cycle slowly, stay on course and others will avoid you.

That doesn't always work, especially when you're trying to cross a busy intersection where bicycles, motorcycles and cars all zoom past you so close you can feel them against your knees. In a situation like this, the last thing you wanna do is PANIC.

Which is of course exactly what I did.

A motorcycle overtook me from behind. In the heat of the moment, I lost my balance, collided into him, fell onto the ground as a car whizzed by me, narrowly missing my head and turning me into a bloody pulp.

I survived (of course), suffering injuries no worse than a sprained wrist and a bruised kneecap.

But as they say, "once bitten twice shy".

The followed day I decided to play on the safe side and cycled as slowly and as carefully as I could...

Screw it, I'm walking instead."

Malaysian in space

BAIKONUR (Kazakhstan): At exactly 9.23pm (Malaysian time), the Soyuz -FG rocket launcher blasted off from the Baikonur Cosmodrome.

The rocket launcher, carrying the Soyuz TMA-II spacecraft with Malaysian cosmonaut Dr Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor and his crew members on board, lit up the clear night sky.

Witnesses to the event from the launch view, three kilometres away from the launch pad, felt the ground shake from the enormous thrust of the launcher.

VIPs and guests who witnessed the launch included Dr Sheikh Muszaphar’s proud parents Datuk Sheikh Mustapha Shukor and Datin Zuraida Sheikh Ahmad.

Dr Sheikh Muszaphar, Nasa’s commander Peggy Whitson - the first female International Space Station (ISS) commander - and Russian Yuri Malechencko comprise Expedition 16S, which will make a trip to the ISS and return on Oct 21.

Some two hours before the launch, all communication systems (telephone lines, mobile telephone lines and TV) were cut off in Baikonur to block the airwaves and ensure contact with the crew was not disrupted in any way. A blackout was also experienced as the power supply was drained by the launch.

During the launch, road and rail traffic were also halted as a safety measure.

The crews' big day began when they walked out of the Cosmonaut Hotel, which is not a guest hotel but actually a branch of the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Centre where they were quarantined.

They boarded a bus that took them to the launch pad, seven hours prior to the launch. On the bus, they watched a 10-minute video of their friends and families wishing them bon voyage.

The bus stopped midway for a ritual that has been performed by cosmonauts since the time of Yuri Gagarin – the male crew urinated on the bus tyres.

At the launch pad, they made their “last walk”, which was the last chance for family members and people to see them from a distance at the Cosmodrome.

The three put on their custom-made Sukol space suit before they went through a formal military ceremony and shook hands with important guests, including the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, Russian Federal Space Agency chief Perminov Anatoli Nikolaevich, Kazakh Space Agency chief Musabaev Talgat Amangeldievish and Malaysian Ambassador to Russia Datuk Mohamad Khalis Ali Hassan.

About four hours to the launch, the crew were hoisted to the capsule using an elevator. They were strapped to their seats and went through system checks.

Forty-five minutes to the launch, the rocket’s service gantry was removed, the flight programme loaded and the crews' space suits were checked for air tightness.

Unlike a shuttle launch, the Soyuz rocket launch has no countdown - blast off occurs when everything is in place and set to go.

The rocket’s four lateral boosters were started 29 seconds to launch. Then it was blast off, during which the gravity pull was 4G.

The rocket shot up at a speed of 800km per second to reach orbit in two minutes.

Two minutes into launch, the four lateral boosters were jettisoned, and the gravity pull was reduced to 1.5G.

When the core stage engine fired at full thrust, gravity force climbed to 3G.

Third-stage separation occurred at 8.48 seconds into launch, when the space capsule was fully separated.

It took about nine minutes for Soyuz to enter zero gravity, after which it will orbit the earth for two days before docking with the ISS, a process that will take two to three hours.

Prior to docking, the cosmonauts will be strapped to their seats the entire time.

Once in orbit, the mission will be taken over by the Mission Control Centre in Moscow.

On A Lighter Note...

Joke 1: Malaysian in Space : Selection Process

Dr. Mahathir was about to send the first Malaysian rocket into space.

3 potential astronauts were called for an interview - one Indian, one Malay and one Chinese.

Dr. M interviews the Indian first: "So, Muthu, this is a dangerous mission... how much do you think you should be paid for it?"

Muthu thinks to himself and says, "1 million ringgit."
"Why so much?" asks Dr. M.
"Nowadays toddy wery expensive, Datuk..." replies Muthu.
"I see," said Dr. M. "Thank you... please ask the Malay guy to come here."

So the Malay walks up, and is asked the same question.
"Uh... 2 million boleh lah," replies the Malay applicant.
"2 million? That's a lot of money! Even the aneh before you only asked for one million!"
"You see, Datuk," explained Mat. "I have 4 wives and 15 children...so, 20 of us in the family, we need a lot of money to support ourselves..."
"I see," said Dr. M. "Okay, can you ask the Chinese guy to come up here now?"

The Chinese guy comes in and Dr. M asks, "Ah Chong, this is a dangerous mission... how much do you think you should be paid?"
Ah Chong thinks for a while, and suddenly says, "3 million."
Mahathir is shocked. "WHAT?!?! 3 million? Why so much?!"
Ah Chong beckons Dr. M to come closer, and whispers, "One million you keep, one million I keep, and then one more million to send the aneh into space."

Joke 2: The First Malaysian in Space

Mahathir finally sends a Malaysian into space courtesy of the Russians. Finally, after months of training, the Malaysian astronaut and a chimpanzee are blasted off into space.

Once in orbit, the Malaysian waits for instructions. The screen flickers and the instrucions are flashed on it:

"Chimpanzee, execute space manuever No. 23B"

The chimp takes over flight control and carries out the manuever. The Malaysian astronaut is impressed but patient... he knows his instructions will come and they'll probably be more complex than what the chimp just did.

The screen flickers again and more instructions appear:

"Chimpanzee, carry out scientific experiment No. 234"

The chimp goes to the lab and mixes chemicals and carries out all sorts of complex scientific experiments. While he's doing this, the Malaysian astronaut is impatient. He speaks to Ground Control tru the comm link: "Eh Control, how come I got nothing to do man... train for so long but the monyet does all the important work but I'm smarter than the monyet"

Finally Ground Control responds: "Be patient, your instructions are coming soon"

Finally, the monkey rejoins the Malaysian astronaut and they wait for the instructions from the screen.

THe screen flickers and the message appears....

"Prepare for new instructions...."

A small door under the screen opens. Inside, there is a compartment with a wrapped item inside.....

"Malaysian astronaut, remove the item and unwrap then wait for further instructions"

The Malaysian astronaut unwraps the item and finds a banana inside. "Must be biogenetic banana" he thinks...

The screen flickers again....

"Malaysian astronaut, please feed the monkey"

Post-mortem pictures of Nurin Jazlin Jazimin leaked on the Net

KUALA LUMPUR: Even in death, there is no peace for Nurin Jazlin Jazimin.

She is still being violated and this time, it may very well be by the same people who are supposedly involved in the investigations to nab her killer.

This is what police are working on after sickening pictures of her post-mortem were found to be circulating on the Internet via emails.

The pictures include Nurin's body inside the sports bag and part of the post-mortem report.

Selangor police chief Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar is furious and has instructed a full investigation into how the photographs, which were classified as "secret", had made it on to the Internet.
Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail also expressed outrage over this latest development and said he wanted a full investigation.

"It is a despicable and deplorable act," Khalid said angrily.

The case is being investigated under the Official Secrets Act 1972 and for possession of pornographic materials.

He did not discount the possibility that policemen and hospital staff may have been involved in circulating the photographs.

Khalid said a report was lodged by the Petaling Jaya police chief ACP Arjunaidi Mohamad at the police headquarters in Petaling Jaya yesterday evening.

"The origin of the emails is now being probed," he said.

Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur Hospital director Datuk Dr Zaininah Mohd Zin denied that any of her staff was involved in the leaking and circulation of Nurin's post-mortem pictures.

"The case has been placed in a classified file and only a handful of people, including the head of the Forensics Department, has access to the file," she said.

"An initial investigation has been carried out by the Forensics Department head and the findings showed that the leak did not come from the hospital."

It is learnt that during investigations into Nurin's case, only two cameras were used, one belonging to the police and the other to the hospital.

Police, however, have not discounted the possibility that the photographs could have been taken using a camera-phone.

Nurin's devastated father, Jazimin Abdul Jalil, also lodged a police report.

The photographs were sent to him by a relative who persuaded him to lodge the report.

"Why are they doing this to us? Haven't we suffered enough?" asked the distraught taxi driver at the Dang Wangi police station last night.

Jazimin said from now on, any statement from the family would be through their counsel Datuk Muhammad Shafee Abdullah.

In a related development, it is learnt that the remand order on the Indonesian woman who had swallowed a SIM card would expire today.

The 23-year-old woman has been in remand for the past two weeks.

*Note: The montage picture above was released by the press earlier. At the time the said picture (bottom picture) was released, the identity of the body was not known. The said picture was released by the Police as the Police requires the public assistance in indentifying the body.
FM does not condone the released of the much gruesome post-mortem pictures as it is a sheer disrespect to Nurin and her family. FM hopes that those in possession of the pictures to stop distributing them and destroy them immediately.

Firm to help find man harassing teen using nude photo

SUNGAI PETANI: Police are working with Digi Communications to trace a person who has been “terrorising” an underage girl by sending a nude photograph of the girl.

The person had been sending the photograph of the 16-year-old girl via the multimedia messaging service (MMS) since late last month, said Kuala Muda OCPD Asst Comm Hashim Ali.

It is learnt that the girl, accompanied by her father’s friend from Penang, lodged a report at the Sungai Petani police station here several days ago.

It is learnt that she had taken the photograph with her own camera phone “as a girlish prank.”

However, it is believed that she accidentally sent the photograph to an unknown number by mistake when she was trying to store the picture in her phone.

On Sept 26, she was shocked to receive the same photograph, which was purportedly sent by a Digi Telecommunications user.

The girl was too frightened to inform her parents and so she had only told her best friend, who advised her to make a police report.

A Digi Telecommunications spokesman said that it would take at least a week for the company to trace the name of the Digi prepaid user.

“We can only hope that the user has registered his real name. If the information fed to Digi is false, there isn’t much that we can do to help,” said the spokesman.

Hui Yi's heart operation: ’It is a miracle, two hearts in two days’

KUALA LUMPUR: Just when the doctors thought Tee Hui Yi’s heart transplant was successful, the danger signs appeared.

Her frail body was rejecting the new heart. Pushing aside the fatigue that gnawed at them, the team of doctors at the National Heart Institute (IJN) went into overdrive as they laboured to save Hui Yi.

They pumped drugs into the 14-year-old’s body in a bid to coax it to accept the new heart — to no avail. And just when they were giving up hope, good news arrived. Another heart had been found.

The heart was rushed from Johor to the IJN where a team of 34 doctors and paramedic staff operated on Hui Yi again and performed a second transplant.

This time, they were successful. The team, led by IJN chief cardiothoracic surgeon Datuk Dr Mohd Azhari Yakub, sighed with relief.

By yesterday evening, the girl who had been lugging along a 9kg battery pack to power her mechanical heart, was awake.

It was nothing short of a miracle.

However, IJN’s heart and lung transplant clinical director Dr Mohamed Ezani Md Taib cautioned: “She is still not out of the woods. We need to monitor her closely for the next 72 hours.

“It’s a miracle. Two hearts in two days after waiting for almost 10 months. It’s unbelievable. God is great.”

Recounting the moments after the first surgery on Thursday, Dr Ezani said: “We were monitoring her closely. After the first hour of the surgery we found that her body was rejecting the transplanted heart.

“Three hours later, we realised we were facing a serious problem. We had to open her up again at 2pm to find out what was happening.”

On opening up her chest, he knew that her transplanted heart had been rejected.

“I was scared stiff. I told Dr Azhari my fears and we were pondering our next course of action, including the possibility of placing Hui Yi back on the mechanical heart, when I got a call around 3pm, saying there was another heart donor,” said Dr Ezani.

He said his first question was “What blood group?”

When the reply came that it was “O", Dr Ezani cried out: “Yes, I want the heart.”

He informed Dr Azhari.

“It was God’s blessing. We did not know whether to jump with joy or not because we had to get the heart first.”

Dr Ezani said doctors believe the first heart failed because of antibodies in Hui Yi’s immune system.

“I am quite happy to report that Hui Yi’s heart is functioning very well, with lesser support than the previous surgery.”

He said that doctors believe that as a result of Hui Yi ’s multiple blood transfusions over the past year, she could have developed antibodies that rejected the first heart.

“We are using drugs that suppress her immune system so it will not affect the new organ and we are also making sure that she does not develop an infection.”

The second transplant surgery took place yesterday at 1.30am. It lasted 61/2 hours, finally ending at 8am. The first transplant operation on Wednesday lasted 101/2 hours.

The first donor heart is now being tested to find out why Hui Yi’s body rejected it.

IJN deputy head of anaesthesiology Dr Syarifah Suraya Syed Mohd Tahir said although Hui Yi’s surgery “went very well", the next two or three days would be crucial.

“She only weighs about 30kg and has barely enough muscle on her and she’s had lots of infections. It is going to be difficult for her to cope with the surgery,” she said.

“It remains to be seen whether she can cope. We are hopeful that because she is young, she can overcome, but we are still guarded in our happiness,” said Dr Syarifah.

The second donor, like the first, was also an accident victim and he donated his lungs, liver and kidneys.

“The doctors would like to thank both families for the selfless acts,” said Dr Azhari. They were also grateful to the RMAF and police for their help in transporting the organs.

A surprise in his loaf of bread

SEREMBAN: A construction supervisor and his wife nearly had a little “extra protein” in their sandwiches on Thursday.

Mohd Rafi Mohd Kamal found a dead cockroach in a loaf of bread he bought from a grocery shop near his Seremban 2 home.

“I didn’t notice anything wrong with the bread until I got to the last few slices. I found a dead cockroach sandwiched between them,” said the 31-year-old.

He says his wife Shukrina Abdullah fell ill after eating a few slices from the same end of the loaf where the cockroach was found.

“She was vomiting and had diarrhoea. The doctor said it might have been caused by the contaminated bread,” said Rafi, adding that he noticed a few spots of mould on the bread even though the expiry date on the label was Oct 6.
Shukrina lodged a police report on the same day but Rafi said when he contacted the manufacturer, the company tried to brush off his complaint.

“They asked me to send the bread to them so they could conduct tests and investigate the matter.

“I declined because I want the tests to be done by a neutral body,” he said.

He lodged a report and submitted the bread to the Negri Sembilan health department for testing yesterday.

“My next move depends on the test results,” he said.

The manufacturer’s Nilai facility was temporarily closed down last year because it was unhygienic, and the company was employing illegal workers as well as using cooking oil without a halal certification.

Hui Yee gets a new heart

This is the most poignant and heart wrenching statement made by the father of the 15 year old boy who donated his son's heart to Tee Hui Yi (story: Hui Yi successfully undergoes heart ops). On why he agreed for his son to be an organ donor, he said:

My son was God’s gift to me. Now, it is time to return the gift to God.

For the rest of the story:

KUALA LUMPUR: Mechanical heart girl Tee Hui Yi successfully underwent a heart transplant yesterday after receiving the organ from an accident patient who died in Ipoh on Wednesday.

Several of the 15-year-old donor's organs were donated.

Hui Yi, 14, was wheeled into the National Heart Institute (IJN) operating theatre at 10.45pm on Wednesday and surgery for heart-donor implantation started at 1.30am, according to a statement issued by IJN.

The boy's heart and lungs were flown into Subang Airport from Ipoh Hospital through the Royal Malaysian Air Force mercy flight.

The IJN transplant team, headed by chief cardiothoracic surgeon Datuk Dr Mohd Azhari Yakub and Heart and Lung Transplant clinical director Dr Mohamed Ezani Md Taib performed the surgery simultaneously with another double lung transplant on a 39-year-old man suffering from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (lung failure).

Six cardiothoracic surgeons, six anaesthetists, one physician from the Respiratory Research Institute and 30 paramedics were involved in the surgeries.

The whole surgery process lasted more than 10 hours and the recipients were wheeled out of the operation theatre to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at 9.05am yesterday.

Both recipients remain in critical condition.

Hui Yi currently requires temporary mechanical support for the new heart to stabilise.

She has been carrying a mechanical heart assist device and has waited for a donor heart for more than a year. Her mother Dina Bato Sam Bua, 46, has been steadfastly by her side since she was warded at IJN.

Asked how long Hui Yi will be at the ICU, IJN CEO Mohd Radzif Mohd Yunus said it would depend on her condition.

“Let’s all pray for her recovery,” he said.

Dina and her husband Tee Ah Soon, 51, were not ready for comments, he said.

No further information was available about the 39-year-old man except that he had waited for lung transplant for eight months.

To date, IJN has performed 18 heart transplants since 1997 and three lung transplants since 2005. There are 13 more patients needing heart and lung transplants on the waiting list.

In Ipoh, the father of the donor said he might have lost his son but he felt that he had gained a foster daughter, HAH FOONG LIAN reports.

The man, who wants to remain anonymous, said he felt happy when he received a telephone call from a doctor telling him that his son’s heart had been successfully transplanted to Hui Yi.

“Although I have lost a son, I now feel like I have a foster daughter,” he said.

The donor’s father also expressed surprised that the press knew the family’s whereabouts.

He said the family did not ask for money or any word of thanks.

The only condition he had asked of the hospital was to not reveal the identity of his son.

On why he agreed for his son to be an organ donor, he said: “My son was God’s gift to me. Now, it is time to return the gift to God.”

IT’S finally out.

The SIM card, which an Indonesian woman swallowed when she was picked up in connection with Nurin’s murder case, was fl ushed out at noon yesterday.

The card is believed to be with forensics for analysis.

It is learnt that doctors had to use special equipment to pull out the SIM card from her anus.

The 23-year-old suspect was on a liquid diet during her five-day stay at University Malaya Medical Centre.

She had undergone an X-ray examination at 9am, which detected the card near the anus.

The woman, who appeared healthy, was discharged at 12.30pm.

She was later seen walking towards the Petaling Jaya magistrate’s court, handcuffed and escorted by two policewomen, at 3pm.

She was then taken to Petaling Jaya police headquarters.

It is learnt that the suspect was admitted to the hospital in a wheelchair.

Magistrate Izralizam Sanusi granted a six-day extension on the remand order.

Selangor police chief Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar declined to comment while Federal police CID director Datuk Christopher Wan Soo Kee could not be reached.

Checks showed that two telecommunication service providers offered data back-up services.

One telco provides back-up for SIM card contents, such as phone numbers, SMS and MMS while the other provider only incorporates phone numbers.

The arrest of the woman came after police picked up four men and a pregnant woman in Section 7, Shah Alam, on Sept 27.

The pregnant woman was released on the same day after police recorded her statement while the four were released unconditionally on Monday, a few days before their remand order ended.

Police said the suspects were released as they have no connection to the case and had given their full co-operation in the investigation.

The Indonesian is the only suspect in custody to help them in the investigation.

Police have released two photofi ts of a man and a woman whom they believe can shed light on the case.

The man is 168cm tall, 35-40 years of age with short hair and a thin moustache.

He was said to have been looking for a room to rent in the Bangsar area for himself and his daughter.

The woman, in her 20s, was last seen in a red T-shirt. She is 153cm tall and has shoulderlength hair.

She was seen at the same spot in Petaling Jaya the day before the sports bag containing Nurin’s body was found on Sept 17.

Nurin, a Year Two pupil of Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan Desa Setapak, was reported missing on Aug 20.

A boy and his train

A mother was working in the kitchen, listening to her five-year-old son playing with his new electric train in the living room. She heard the train stop & her son saying, "All of you b*astards who want off, get the hell off now, cause this is the last stop! And all of you b*astards who are getting on, get you're a*ss in the train ! cause we're going down the tracks."

The Mother walked into the room where her son was playing and said "we don't use that kind of language in this house. Now I want you to go to your room & stay there for TWO HOURS. When you come out, you may play with your train, but I want you to use nice language."

Two hours later, the son came out of the bedroom & resumed playing with his train. Soon the train stopped & the mother heard her son say, "All passengers who are disembarking the train, please remember to take all of your belongings with you. We thank you for travelling with us today & hope your trip was a pleasant one." She hears the little boy continue, "For those of you just boarding, we ask you to store all of your hand luggage under your seat. Remember, there is no smoking on the train. We hope you will have a pleasant and relaxing journey with us today."

As the mother began to smile, the child added, "For those of you who are p!ssed off about the TWO HOUR delay, please direct your complaints to the fat b!tch in the kitchen."

Student blogger in trouble

KLANG: A young blogger caused a storm in her school after she wrote that some fellow students had exchanged notes during a recent examination.

The Form Four girl said the copycats were unfair to others, adding that those who cheated eventually scored high marks while those who did not, got low grades.

She further claimed that the teachers who knew what was going on during the examination deliberately ignored the incident.

Her grouses prompted the school authorities to order her to remove her entry in the blog.

A schoolmate of the 16-year-old girl said she broke down and felt she had been victimised merely because she wanted justice to prevail.

The friend said the blogger had named the alleged copycat students and the teachers, and this had probably upset the school authorities.

It is learnt that the matter came to light when the named students told their parents about the blog entry.

The parents then went to the school, demanding action against the young blogger.

“The school authorities called her up for questioning and asked her to remove the entry in front of them.

“They told her what she did would damage the image of the school and the students,” said the girl’s friend.

The school’s senior assistant, Adilayah Ramli, said they did not mean to punish the young blogger or victimise her.

“We asked her to remove the entry from the blog as it was slanderous and damaging to the teachers and students who were named.

“She is a good student and she scored straight As in her PMR exam last year. We understand her frustration,” Adilayah said, adding that the postings were mere allegations.

However, she said the school was investigating the girl’s claims and would seek an explanation from those named in the blog.

“We want to know their side of the story before resorting to any action.”

Poll: Malaysians have sex 3 times a week, but want more

KUALA LUMPUR: According to a global survey, Malaysians have little to complain about in their more intimate moments.

The 62 per cent who say they are more than satisfied with what takes place behind closed doors, puts Malaysia in sixth place among the 26 countries polled in the Durex Sexual Wellbeing Global Survey 07/08.

Malaysia beat the global average of 50 per cent by 12 percentage points.

But leading the charge is Nigeria, followed by Mexico, India, Brazil and China.

The survey polled 1,026 heterosexuals in Malaysia. More than 26,000 people were surveyed globally.
The country also scored quite high in frequency, with 35 per cent saying they do it three times a week or more. (The global average is 10 per cent). But, 54 per cent of Malaysians say this is not often enough, as opposed to 62 per cent worldwide.

Sixty per cent of Malaysians consider themselves uninhibited, putting the country in 12th place, while 66 per cent (54 per cent globally) say they would act out fantasies, and 49 per cent (21 per cent globally) engage in role play.

Fifty-seven per cent turned to erotic material, compared with a global average of 49 per cent, while 67 per cent agreed that a massage helps them get in the mood, and 45 per cent agreed that nice lingerie would help.

Some 72 per cent of Malaysians felt that sex aids should be sold in pharmacies, while 54 per cent say there should be a special section for them.

But Malaysian respondents did say that more fun (64 per cent), more romance (74 per cent) and better communication with their partners (66 per cent) would be among their top priorities to improve their intimacy.

Respondents also felt that in 10 years, attitudes would change, including that people would become more experimental (65 per cent) and would be tolerant of others’ sexual preferences (51 per cent).

“We hope that with the results, the topic will be more openly discussed. While we understand the sensitivities, we hope people will be more open,” said Voong King Yee, the general manager of SSL Healthcare Malaysia Sdn Bhd, the company which manufactures and distributes Durex products.

Asked about the accuracy of the data, Voong said Durex tried to make it conducive for respondents to answer truthfully by providing an online form to be filled in at their own pace and in private.
