HALF the battle has been won for mechanical heart girl Tee Hui Yi, 14. She has been transferred to the intensive care unit (ICU) of the hospital after undergoing a heart operation which started at 10pm last night after a donor was located.
The family of a 15-year-old accident victim from Ipoh donated the heart and lungs to the National Heart Institute. The heart arrived at the National Heart Institute (IJN) at 1.15am this morning.
The heart and lungs of the 15-year old accident victim were harvested by a 13-member team from IJN, who were flown to Ipoh by the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF).
The team left Kuala Lumpur at 7pm last night on board the CN235 from the Detachment No 1 Squadron based in Subang. The aircraft was piloted by Kapt Suhardi Abdul Rahman.
The four doctors in the IJN team were Dr Mohamad Ezani Mohd Taib, Dr Sivakumar Sivalingam, Dr Suhaimi Kadiman and Dr Arrifin Marzuki Mokhtar.
IJN will issue a statement later today.
