New Era College senate head punched while giving speech

KAJANG: What started out as a happy event turned chaotic at the New Era College convocation.

A man went up to the stage as college senate chairman Dr Yap Sin Tian was giving a speech and punched him in the face in front of 500 people, including students, parents and guests.

However, the attacker managed to flee the scene.

Dr Yap, who is Dong Zong (the United Chinese School Committees Association of Malaysia) president, was ushered to a seat with a fractured cheekbone and nose. An ambulance arrived later to send him to the Kajang Specialist Hospital.

College principal Mok Soon Choong took over the podium to continue the speech and calmed the situation.

Witnesses said the attacker wore a shirt used by members of a fund-raising event in the college. The man has been identified as a former college graduate.

Dong Jiao Zong Education Centre directors, who were seated near the stage, tried to catch him but he managed to escape.

It is unclear if the attack is linked to an ongoing squabble between Dr Yap and the college’s former principal Dr Kua Kia Soong.

Dr Yap had supported Dong Zong when it did not extend Dr Kua’s contract which expired in December.

The Dong Jiao Zong has made a police report on the attack.

College officials said they would conduct their own investigation.

In Penang, MCA vice-president Datuk Liow Tiong Lai expressed regret over the attack.

“It is sad to see such an incident happening in an educational body. Any problem should be settled without the use of violence,” he said.

TV presenter tests positive

Police have confirmed that the newscaster who was nabbed along with 27 other people in a raid on a hotel room on New Year’s Eve is Farahrizan Abdul Razak.

Sources told Malay Mail that the 22-year-old newsreader with Astro Awani had tested positive for drugs. She has been remanded for two days, along with eight others who had also tested positive. Also picked up during the raid were the organisers of the party.

Officers led by Assistant Superintendent Mahani Ahmad found condoms, drugs and alcohol in the room, which was packed with revellers who had received special invites to the party through social networking site Friendster.

Authorities are concerned that the organisers of these romps are using the Internet to get the word out.

City police had raided the room on the 11th floor of the Cabana Inn in Jalan P. Ramlee after being tipped off that a sex and drugs party was being held there. The suspects, aged between 18 and 31, were picked up at 3am by D7, the anti-vice and gaming unit.

When police moved in, two halfnaked couples were in bed, while the others were intoxicated. Half-eaten pizzas and empty beer cans littered the floor.

Authorities seized 24 Ecstasy pills, packets and straws containing Ketamine, one Eramine 5 tablet, other drug paraphernalia and some condoms. Efforts to contact Farahrizan for comment were unsuccessful.

Female newscaster, actress among 26 nabbed at sex party

KUALA LUMPUR: Police arrested a female newscaster of a private television station, an actress and 24 others who took part in a sex party at a hotel room in Jalan P. Ramlee on Thursday.

The two woman and seven others - six men and a woman - tested positive for drugs, said ASP Mahani Ahmad of the police's vice, gambling and secret society branch.

All those arrested during the 3.30am operation aged between 18 and 31 years, she said when contacted.

She said the police also found liquor and various drugs like ketamine, cocaine and syabu in the room on the 11th floor of the hotel and a 20yearold student of a Kelana Jaya private college believed the drugs supplier was among those held.

During the raid, three couples were on the bed while the rest were entertaining themselves believed intoxicated, she said.

She said preliminary investigations showed the sex party was hosted by two men and those who attended it knew each other through Friendster, a social network in the internet.

Those arrested were taken to the Kuala Lumpur contingent police headquarters. Meanwhile, about 40 people were arrested for various offences during the new year's eve party in Bukit Bintang where several fights took place between drunken youths.

A number of people including foreign tourists also lost cash, passports and electronic gadgets to pickpockets and 10 police reports were lodged at the mobile police station deployed there. - Bernama

More disturbing video surfaces after lesbian clip

KUANTAN: Another pornographic video clip featuring a secondary schoolgirl has surfaced here.

But this time, the content was more disturbing as it showed a girl forced to strip and being abused by a group of female gangsters.

The victim, believed to be a Form Two student, was forced to perform sexual acts in front of the group, which included several boys.

It is understood that the victim was abused as a payback for exposing the sexual and gangster activities of the other girls.

The culprits were believed to be involved in an earlier video clip that was circulated, featuring a Form Four and Form Five female student in a lesbian sex romp.
The existence of the first video clip was highlighted last week in the New Straits Times after it was found by a company manager in his daughter's mobile phone.

In the second clip, one of the female gangsters forced the victim to perform sexual acts.

Speaking with a thick Pekan accent, the gangster said: "Sit here and do it stupid!

"If not, I will kick you. Do you want me to distribute this (the recording) to the whole school?"

Throughout the two-minute and 39 second video clip, the victim was physically and verbally abused.

Her tormentors also made comments on her looks and body.

It could not be confirmed where and when the incident took place.

But a student, who claimed to be the victim's schoolmate, said that it was recorded in a classroom of a secondary school here.

"The girl was forced to perform the act in front of several female and male students," the schoolmate said.

She also claimed that the gangsters and the victim were from the same school.

She believed that the culprits were also involved in the first video clip.

Councillor who took sexual favours sacked

IPOH: The state government has declared as vacant the post of Perak Tengah district councillor, held by Zul Hassan who is facing a corruption charge and admitted to having accepted sexual favours.

The move which was quickly hailed by Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR).

“Zul Hassan, who is under investigation by the Anti-Corruption Authority (ACA), had not only issued a statement confessing to illicit sex, but also justified his decision by saying he was induced into committing thw immoral act,” PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said in a statement.

“Such a statement makes a mockery of Pakatan Rakyat’s pledge towards a government that respects the trust of the people,” she said.

Zul Hassan is facing a corruption charge over a development project at Seri Iskandar in Perak Tengah. In a complaint that he lodged against one Mohamad Imran Abdullah, he and businessman Fairul Azrim Ismail admitted having accepted offers to have sex with Chinese nationals.

Mohamad Imran is the complainant in a corruption case in which Zul and four others are the accused.

Zul Hassan had been quoted as saying “what is important is we did not ask for the women. He supplied them to us. If people sedekah (donate), don’t you want to accept it?”

Dr Wan Azizah said the PKR disciplinary committee will deal with Zul Hassan, who will be asked to explain his statement above.

Student's lesbian sex romp video makes the rounds

PEKAN: A video clip involving two secondary school students in a lesbian sex romp is making its rounds at schools here.

The clip, 100 minutes long, is believed to feature a Fifth Former and a Fourth Former. It is believed that the incident was videotaped on a mobile phone by the older of the two students.

The clip came to light after a company manager discovered it on his daughter's mobile phone.

"She knows the students featured. The video clip has been widely distributed among teenagers here," said the 45-year-old who wanted to be known only as James.

A 19-year-old girl, who wanted to be known only known as Amy, claimed the tomboy was well known here for her Cassanova personality.
"She has many girlfriends due to her 'handsome' appearance and caring attitude.

"She also likes to record her intimate moments with her girlfriends and show them to her friends."

Amy said this was the first time such a video clip had been circulated among the public.

POLICE: Website's report an attempt to sabotage investigations, confuse public

Police have dismissed reports on the Internet that a private hospital doctor had not found any medical evidence of sodomy by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s accuser as another attempt to sabotage police investigations.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar said the reports were also aimed at confusing the people.

Police, he said, were considering investigating the news website and a blog over their reports, which referred to a medical report allegedly issued by Pusrawi Hospital on Jalan Tun Razak.

The news report claimed that there was no evidence that Anwar’s former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan had been sodomised.

However, Ismail declined to comment on the medical report itself, saying investigations were ongoing.
Mohd Saiful had alleged that he had been sodomised by the de facto leader of Parti Keadilan Rakyat.

Ismail also quashed rumours that Dr Mohamed Osman Abdul Hamid, the Pusrawi Hospital medical officer who examined Mohd Saiful on June 28, had been picked up by police.

“Mohamed Osman’s statement had been recorded by police earlier on in the investigation, as such, rumours circulating about his arrest by police are untrue,” Ismail said.

Attempts to get in touch with Pusrawi Hospital officials were futile as all questions were met with a “No comment” answer.

According to the news website, Dr Mohamed Osman had examined Mohd Saiful about four hours before lodging a police report alleging he had been sexually assaulted by Anwar.

Mohd Saiful went to the hospital about 2pm on June 28 complaining of ’tenesmus’, a medical term for difficulty and pain in passing motion.

Dr Mohamed Osman, a Burmese Muslim, is said to be on leave.

Raja Petra Kamaruddin Statutory Declaration: Cops investigating Raja Petra’s allegations

KUALA LUMPUR: The police will be calling up Malaysia Today editor Raja Petra Kamaruddin to investigate his allegations in a recent statutory declaration, which touched on purported facts related to the ongoing Altantuya Shaariibuu trial.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan said the three individuals named in the document filed at the High Court here on June 18 would also be called up.

Raja Petra had claimed that these individuals, one a prominent VIP, were present when Altantuya was killed on Oct 19, 2006.

Copies of the statutory declaration, filed on June 18, have been posted online by bloggers.

In his two-paged statutory declaration, Raja Petra said he had been “reliably informed” of the presence of these individuals at the murder.

Musa said that the matter could be subjudice as the Altantuya murder trial was on going.

Accused of the murder are C/Insp Azilah Hadri and Kpl Sirul Azhar Umar of the Unit Tindakan Khas (Special Action Unit). Accused of abetting them is political analyst Abdul Razak Baginda.

Musa said the allegations made by Raja Petra were “highly defamatory” and if found to be untrue, those making the allegations would have to face the consequences.

Meanwhile, the Attorney-General’s Chambers has filed a police report against Raja Petra over the statutory declaration.

Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patil said, “We want to investigate it as we want the truth. As far as I am concerned, we have to look it seriously.”

“If it’s true, we will act accordingly. If not, the writer will be investigated,’’ he said, adding that the report was lodged in Putrajaya on Saturday.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Royal Commission of Inquiry into the Lingam video clip has found that it was former Chief Justice Tun Ahmad Fairuz Sheikh Abdul Halim who was talking to prominent lawyer Datuk V.K. Lingam on the telephone.

Sources said the five-man panel also found that the video clip was authentic and that the conversation was true in substance.

They said the commission also found that it was lawyer Loh Mui Fah who Lingam was speaking to after his telephone conversation with Fairuz.

Commission chairman Tan Sri Haidar Mohamed Noor presented a two-volume report on the findings to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin at the Istana Negara here yesterday.

The commission commenced its enquiry on Jan 14.

The sources said the commission also found that there was sufficient evidence of misbehaviour by certain persons mentioned or identified in the clip.

They said the commission found sufficient reason for the relevant authorities to take appropriate action against those implicated for breaches of the Sedition Act, the Penal Code, the Official Secrets Act, the Legal Profession Act and other laws.

They added that the commission was recommending the Government set up a Judicial Appointments Commission and to undertake other necessary reforms.

Sources also said the commission stated that its report was not meant as an indictment against all judges.

Former Chief Judge of Malaya Tan Sri Haidar Mohamed Noor, who chaired the commission, said yesterday that the King was happy that the enquiry had been completed.

The other four members of the commission were former Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak Tan Sri Steve Shim Lip Kiong, former Court of Appeal Judge and former Suhakam commissioner Datuk Mahadev Shankar, former Solicitor-General Puan Sri Zaitun Zawiyah Puteh and Professor Emeritus Datuk Dr Khoo Kay Kim.

The video clip showing the apparent brokering of judicial appointments and promotions first came to light on Sept 19 last year when PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim released it at a press conference.

Anwar later released two more segments that showed Lingam telling Loh that he had been talking to Fairuz.

On Sept 25, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak announced that an independent inquiry committee would investigate the authenticity of the video clip purportedly made in 2001.

The committee completed its report on Nov 6. It was studied by the Cabinet but never made public.

Based on the recommendations of the committee, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi announced the setting up of the commission on Dec 12.

At the conclusion of the enquiry on Feb 15, the commission had heard testimony from 21 witnesses and received more than 100 exhibits and over 15 statutory declarations.

Among the prominent witnesses were former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, former minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, tycoon Tan Sri Vincent Tan and retired chief justices Tun Mohamed Eusoff Chin and Tun Mohamed Dzaiddin Abdullah.

The commission had first fixed March 11 to submit the report to the King but sought two one-month extensions later.

Ex-minister had no intention of outraging my modesty, says lounge promoter

KUALA LUMPUR: The woman who alleged that a former Cabinet minister had outraged her modesty now wants to withdraw her report, claiming she “misunderstood” the incident.

The 30-year-old promoter at a lounge in a five-star hotel here, in a statutory declaration sent to Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail through her lawyer Datuk Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, said she was “sensitive and moody” at the time of the incident last Thursday.

She said she had known the former minister over the past five years, and that he had acted in jest without any bad intention. However, she said she felt offended at that time due to her “complicated mood which led to her lodging a police report the next day.

“I realise now that I may have misunderstood the entire episode that took place last Thursday.

“When he jokes, he sometimes likes to touch my shoulder or arms but it is something that I accepted as normal among friends especially those we have known for a long time,” she said in her statement.

The woman also said she regretted lodging the police report, as there was no intention on the part of the former minister, who is still an MP, to outrage her modesty or act inappropriately.

She said she was used to the VIP’s jokes and “rough ways” and had never objected to his actions nor felt offended by it previously.

“I cannot remember exactly the conversation between me and the VIP although in my statement to the police I may have said something else.

“I am afraid I may have misinterpreted or misheard (him). The VIP concerned is known to always joke like that and it is normal for him to be like that,” she said, and apologised for lodging the report.

Gani confirmed he had received a fax copy of the statutory declaration from Muhammad Shafee.

“I will forward this request to the police and it is up to them to investigate and get back to me,” he said.

6 Malaysians nabbed in Cambodia for disrupting flight

PHNOM PENH -- Six drunken Malaysian men were arrested and set to be deported from Cambodia on Friday, after they shouted at flight attendants and scared passengers on a flight from Kuala Lumpur, officials said.

The six men were arrested as soon as the AirAsia Airbus A320 landed in Phnom Penh, airport police chief Chhour Kimny told Agence France-Presse.

"They are drunk and demanded services that air hostesses don't provide. They made trouble on board the flight," he said.

"They used a loud voice and had a verbal conflict with the air hostesses. They acted improperly and caused chaos among the passengers," he said.

A top immigration official told AFP the six would be deported from Cambodia soon.
It was not immediately known how many passengers were on board.

Ida to prove she's not in sex clip

PETALING JAYA: After shrugging off suggestions that she was featured in a sex video last month, actress Ida Nerina has now come out to say she is going to clear her name.

"I am discussing with my lawyers on the best course of action," she said after the screening of her latest film Anak at the Cineleisure Damansara here yesterday.

"Just because I did not lodge a police report on the matter, it does not mean that I was the one featured in the clip."

The 10-minute clip circulating on the Internet shows a couple having sex.

Although rumours of Ida's alleged involvement in the video started circulating early last month, she claimed she only knew about the video two weeks ago.

ACA seeks to clarify allegation

PUTRAJAYA: The Anti-Corruption Agency will make an application to the Royal Commission of Inquiry tomorrow to clear its name in the wake of testimony that it had paid a witness to close a 1998 investigation.

This is in relation to the testimony of G. Jayanti on Tuesday, who had said she was given RM3,000 by an ACA officer at the end of investigations into a report lodged against Lingam by his brother, V. Thirunama Karasu.

ACA sources said the agency's senior officers would like to get Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail's consent before submitting a statement to the commission.

"Her evidence has put the ACA in a bad light. We want to clarify what she had testified for public understanding," a source said.

On Tuesday, Jayanti told the commission that ACA officer Wong Chee Kong gave her RM3,000 after she was questioned three times in connection with a report lodged by Thirunama in 1998.
Thirunama had implicated Lingam and former chief justice Tun Mohamed Eusoff Chin for alleged corruption.

Jayanti, a former secretary to Lingam, told the commission she had gone to the ACA office on three occasions in April 1998, but was told three months later that the file had to be closed as it involved high-ranking government officers.

She also confirmed through her counsel, R.S.N Rayer, that it was Wong who gave her the money. Wong, who was from the ACA intelligence unit, has since retired.

Jayanti was the 19th witness to take the stand and she is expected to be examined by other counsel when hearing resumes today.

KUALA LUMPUR: G. Jayanti also testified on the documents she handed over to Shafee.

"During the course of my employment at V.K. Lingam & Co, I took possession of a group photograph of Vincent Tan and his wife, (former attorney-general) Datuk Mohtar Abdullah and his wife and Lingam and his wife.

"I also took possession of a photocopy of a Bank of Nova Scotia cheque for payment to Holiday Tours. These documents were given to Shafee to keep," she said.

Shafee asked whether Lingam had a direct communication line to Tan.

"Yes, there is a direct intercom from his room to Tan," replied Jayanti.
Further evidence on the ACA also came to light when she answered questions by her second counsel R.S.N. Rayes.

When Rayes asked Jayanti how many times she had given statements to the ACA, she said she had done so on three occasions in April 1998.

Rayes: Was this in respect of V.K. Lingam's alleged close relationship with judges?

Jayanti: Yes.

Rayes: After they concluded their investigations, did they tell you anything?

The courtroom was silent when Jayanti replied: "They told me about three months later that the file had to be closed because it involved high-ranking officers in the government. They then gave me RM3,000 cash."

Commission chairman Tan Sri Haidar Mohamed Noor interjected: "You took the money?" "Yes, I took it," replied Jayanti.

Rayes asked whether she knew the name of the ACA officer who had spoken to her.

"It was a Chinese gentleman, I don't remember his full name but it was Wong."

"Was his name perhaps Wong Chee Kong?" asked Rayes.

"Yes," replied Jayanti.

Rayes: The RM3,000 that was given to you, was it a reward or was it to quieten you?

Jayanti: Nothing was mentioned. It was just given to me.

The ongoing Lingam video clip inquiry has brought more customers to Patrick Saw's shop asking for the “Lingam T-shirt”.

“I’ve actually had this design for a while but it became a hit and sold like hot cakes since a couple of days ago,” said Saw, who designs T-shirts.

“I update myself with current trends and issues and put them across in a graphic and humorous manner just to keep the people’s interest going,” he added.

“My inspirations come from whatever I see and hear,” the 54-year-old Saw said.

No to street protests, yes to walking around naked and No ethnic cleansing in Malaysia but armpit cleansing aplenty are some eye-catching phrases printed on T-shirts at his T-Junction stall at the Central Market.

Saw said his T-shirts were purely meant to be humorous with no sarcastic meaning in them.

“I am not caustic in my comments. Just to keep things relevant,” he said, adding that all his ‘creations’ were his own ideas.

Asked if he has encountered any trouble, Saw replied: “No, it has been smooth and no trouble so far. But I reckon someone has got to be too narrow-minded to think that the phrases are offensive.”

“The idea is for people to look at it and have a good laugh. I get a kick out of seeing people laugh at my designs,” said Saw, who started the business three years ago after returning from living abroad for 30 years.

A former restaurateur, Saw had designed a few images as decorative items for his outlets in Hong Kong and was asked to produce them in T-shirts.

“Well it has been a business for three years now and I am pleased that the response has been good,” he said, adding that his first designs were the “Mickey Maos” based on the Chinese military and political leader, Mao Zedong.

Lingam clip is true, says man

KUALA LUMPUR: A businessman said yesterday that the Lingam video clip was taken by his son.

Loh Mui Fah claimed the incident took place at Datuk V.K. Lingam's house in Kelana Jaya in late December 2001.

He had gone to Lingam's house with his son to obtain legal advice on family and business matters.

Loh, 57, claimed that whatever was said in the video clip was true. However, he claimed neither he nor his son knew how the video clip was made public.

The video clip allegedly shows lawyer Lingam brokering judicial appointments with a senior judge.
Loh said he would be at the Jalan Duta Court complex tomorrow to testify before the Royal Commission of Inquiry, which was established to investigate the authenticity of the Lingam video clip and the truth of the allegations. The commission begins its sitting tomorrow.

When contacted, Lingam declined to comment on Loh's claims. However, he said that he would give evidence before the commission.

In an interview at his lawyer Americk Singh Sidhu's house last night, Loh said: "I was not aware then that my son was recording Lingam's telephone conversation. My son, who is now overseas, confirmed that he was responsible."

Saying his son was an avid photographer, Loh claimed that his son had earlier taken photographs of the lawyer's house and a discussion between Lingam and his sister, also a lawyer, on a legal matter when they were in the house.

However, he said, it was a mystery how the clip was made public. He said: " My son claimed that it was stored in a computer and wondered how it went to a third party."

He said he only knew of the existence of the video clip after it was talked about.

Loh said he and his son were prepared to testify before the Royal Commission of Inquiry.

"I will be at the Jalan Duta Court complex to testify before the panel. My son is also prepared to do the same."

Loh, who has business interests here and overseas, said he had no interest in the telephone conversation Lingam had with the unidentified person.

"The conversation started after he (Lingam) received a call. Whatever that was spoken and now widely publicised is true," he claimed.

Loh said it was also true that he posed several questions to Lingam after the conversation ended, which included who he was talking to.

"He told me it was the Chief Judge of Malaya," he added.

Loh claimed that since then, unknown individuals had been trailing him and his office had been broken into on several occasions.

Americk Singh said the evidence of his client and the client's son was important as it was covered by the terms and reference of the commission.

"We feel they can go straight to the commission and assist in the inquiry. They need not give any statement to the ACA first."

Last December, the government announced the setting up of the commission headed by former Chief Judge of Malaya Tan Sri Haidar Mohamed Nor.

The commission members are Tan Sri Amar Steve Shim Lip Kiong, Datuk Mahadev Shankar, Puan Sri Zaitun Zawiyah Puteh and Professor Emeritus Datuk Dr Khoo Kay Kim.

The terms of reference of the commission are:

- to ascertain the authenticity of the video clip;

- to identify the speaker, the person he was speaking to in the video clip and the persons mentioned in the conversation;

- to ascertain the truth or otherwise of the content of the conversation in the video clip;

- to determine whether any act of misbehaviour had been committed by the person or persons identified or mentioned in the video clip; and,

- to recommend any appropriate course of action to be taken against the person or persons identified or mentioned in the video clip should such person or persons be found to have committed any misbehaviour.

Sixteen witnesses have been subpoenaed to testify before the commission.
