JOHOR BARU: A man accused of drug possession died after he fainted at the lobby of the courthouse here. Lai Yick King, 31, was brought to the Sessions Court on Monday for his case to be mentioned at about 10am. At about 11am, prosecuting officer Asst Supt Aziz Baba called for an ambulance when he noticed that Lai was looking pale and had difficulty breathing. "As we came out of the lift (into the lobby of the courthouse), he collapsed. The ambulance had just arrived so they gave him first aid, but they could not revive him," said ASP Aziz. The exact cause of his death has yet to be ascertained. A post-mortem is to be performed. Lai was charged under Section 39A(2), 39A(1), and 12 (3) of the Dangerous Drugs Act. He had been detained at the Simpang Renggam detention centre since his arrest on Feb 28.

SUBANG JAYA: So heavy was the rain yesterday that a taxi driver drove his vehicle into a 1.5m-deep swimming pool at a condominium here.
"It was raining heavily when I entered the area. I couldn’t see clearly," said the traumatised taxi driver.
According to the condominium’s security guard, the driver entered a pathway meant for joggers around the swimming pool.
"The sky was so dark that the driver must have thought the pool was a rubber mat.
"When he reached a dead end, he tried to make a U-turn, not realising he was driving into the pool," said the guard.
The driver managed to get out of the car as it was sinking. A tow truck took nearly an hour to pull the taxi out.
The condominium’s residents’ association chairman Chidan Paran said the pathway which the taxi entered was not blocked.
"Anyone could have easily mistaken it for a driveway as it is wide enough for a car to pass through," he said.

Peeping Tom landlord held
KUALA LUMPUR: A landlord who fitted spy cameras in the three bathrooms of a house he rented out to female students has been detained.
The cameras were fixed near the fluorescent lamps in the bathrooms at his double-storey house in Taman Bullion Mewah, Jinjang here.
One of the students, in her early 20s, who rents the house with 18 others, went to the bathroom, looked up and noticed something strange in the light socket on Saturday.
She told her fellow housemates when they returned from college. The girls informed a neighbour who opened the socket and discovered the cameras.
The cameras were discovered in the bathrooms of the house (right) on Saturday.
A quick check revealed two more cameras in the other bathrooms. The girls made a police report.
A police team went to the house and recovered the cameras which were believed to have transmitted the images remotely.
The girls called the landlord under the pretext that something was wrong with the house. Police arrested the man when he turned up.
Sentul OCPD Asst Comm K. Kumaran confirmed that the landlord, a 34-year-old interior designer, was arrested at midnight.
He said the man from Gombak would be remanded until Friday.

Nude controversy: Wan Nurul Zhana claims laptop stolen
Former Akademi Fantasia Season Five (AF5) contestant Wan Nurul Zhana Wan Mohd Hanizan, in her police report lodged last Friday, claimed that her car was broken into and her laptop stolen.
A police source revealed that, according to the report, the incident took place in Damansara in early January.
The source said Wan Nurul Zhana, fondly known as Zana, also claimed the laptop contained important documents and her personal photo collection.
The source added that Zana, who is embroiled in the nude picture controversy, wanted to clear her name and urged police to nab the culprit.
Shah Alam police chief ACP Abdul Wahab Embong confirmed the police report.
However, he declined comment on the content of Zana¡¦s laptop.
We are investigating the case and do not want to jeopardise it,¡¨ he said, adding that they are also looking into whether there is an element of blackmail in the case.
It was reported this week that Shah Alam police was investigating the case under Section 509 of the Penal Code for insulting the modesty of a person.
It was reported that Zana lodged her report at Petaling Jaya police station last Friday, but the case was referred to Shah Alam police as AF5 contestants live in the Hicom Industrial Estate in Section 26, Shah Alam.
It was also learned that as of this week, Zana had yet to give her statement to Shah Alam police.
The Malay Mail had, on Monday, front-paged a report on Zana¡¦s nude picture controversy.
It was reported that the 23-year-old lass had pulled out from the show last Saturday, prompting speculation that it was due to the circulation of the nude pictures on the Internet.
AF5 executive producer Bob Azrai had said Zana had lodged the report after she quit the show.
He was also quoted as saying that Zana had cited pressure as the reason behind her action.
In early reports Zana denied that the pictures were of her.
The 23-year-old, who has denied that several 'revealing' pictures are that of her, told The Malay Mail late last week. She told the media that she would, "get in touch if (there¡¦s) anything (I want to comment on)."
"Hi there. Sorry, didn't mean to offend anybody (for not answering the calls). I didn't like the idea of you getting my number without my permission. Will get in touch if anything.. ..thanks for the concern," was her text reply to this reporter who tried talking to her without success last week.
Her three cell phone lines were switched off, and attempts to reach her home were unsuccessful.
She only responded when The Malay Mail texted her twice to seek her comments on several pictures posted on the Internet.
Akademi Fantasia executive producer Bob Azrai, commenting on the sudden withdrawal of the deejay and part-time emcee and singer from the first weekly concert last Saturday night, said the matter was "out of our hands".
"It's now a police case, and it's out of our hands. She asked to be allowed to leave the show, citing stress and personal problems. Fans of the programme can tell from the daily Diari Akademi Fantasia that she's been under a lot pressure of late, and has been crying since Wednesday."
When asked if it had anything to do with the circulation of nude pictures on the Internet, supposedly of hers, Bob initially said he did not know.
However, when pointed out that the pictures had surfaced about the same time Wan Nurul started showing signs of stress, Bob admitted that the pictures had an impact on her.
"We did tell her what was happening outside (the academy)," he said, adding that he did not know if the pictures had infl uenced Wan Nurul's decision.
Bob said Wan Nurul, or better known as Zana, had lodged a police report after her exit from the programme.
"We had notified her of what was happening because we wanted to get the truth. She denied being the one in those pictures," Bob said.
However the filing of the recent police report over the stolen laptop seems to confirm that the nude pictures are in fact genuine photos of Wan Nurul Zhana.
Zana's initial denial that the pictures were not even her does not mend well with the fact that the starlet is now distancing and covering herself in release of the photos by filing the report with the police over a stolen laptop.

Doctored photos of Perak DAP leaders in sex acts
Sunday June 10, 2007 IPOH: Doctored photographs showing several Perak DAP leaders supposedly performing sexual acts have been circulated to the Chinese press. The pictures, sent to the e-mail addresses of the Chinese newspapers here, have caused an uproar among the leaders, whose faces were superimposed on those of the “participants” of the sex acts. The doctored photographs targeted Batu Gajah MP Fong Po Kuan, Sitiawan assemblyman Ngeh Koo Ham, Pantai Remis assemblyman Nga Kor Ming and Menglembu assemblyman Keong Meng Sing. The four told reporters yesterday that the first e-mail containing the faces of Ngeh and Fong reached the China Press office on June 5. Ngeh, who acted as spokesman, said that over the next two days photographs of other leaders in similar acts were also e-mailed to other Chinese newspapers. “In the June 5 e-mail, the picture showed my face and that of Fong. Nga was a victim in the second e-mail. “On June 7, the picture posted had Keong's face,” he said in the press conference. Ngeh, who is also Perak DAP chairman, said they could not trace the originator of the e-mails. “We believe certain quarters are resorting to this immoral and unscrupulous act to defame DAP,” said Ngeh, who lodged a report at the Ipoh district police headquarters on Wednesday. He urged police to carry out a thorough investigation and to avoid any cover-ups in the case. “We want the culprit to face the law. “The investigation will determine if our police are up to the mark in solving cyber crimes,” he said.
